Frank Abagnale, one of the nation’s authorities on forgery, embezzlement and secured documents, will be the keynote presenter for “Financial Crimes: The Seminar” at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex on March 6.

The daylong seminar is open to professionals from financial institutions, insurance and accounting agencies, law enforcement and cybercrime analysis.

The program, which begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration, is focused on understanding and detecting financial crimes.

The event includes a continental breakfast and buffet lunch, with networking breaks and vendor displays and exhibitions. The cost is $40, including materials and meals. Free parking is available at the Kovalchick Complex.

Experts from law enforcement and finance will present seminars on specialized topics including counterfeiting, trends in the cyber underground, insurance fraud and internal embezzlement.

Abagnale’s keynote presentation will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Following the presentation, he will take questions from the audience.

For more than 35 years, Abagnale has worked with, advised and consulted with hundreds of financial institutions, corporations and government agencies around the world. He was one of the world’s most famous confidence men and his life was depicted in his best-selling book “Catch Me If You Can,” which was also made into a film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

Between ages 16 and 21, Abagnale successfully posed as an airline pilot, an attorney, a college professor and a pediatrician, in addition to cashing $2.5 million in fraudulent checks in every state and 26 foreign countries.

Apprehended by the French police when he was 21, he served time in the French, Swedish and U.S. prison systems. After five years, he was released on the condition that he would help the federal government, without remuneration, by teaching and assisting federal law enforcement agencies.
