Catholic daughters celebrate 95 years

Catholic Daughters Ct. St. Bernard 339, Indiana, held its 95th Anniversary Celebration June 13 at the Rustic Lodge.

The welcome was given by Regent Mary Micco with Sister Mary Ann Siedlarczyk doing the Invocation. Tables were adorned with gold and purple flowers and dinner was served.

Vice Regent and toastmaster Josephine Valenti introduced the officers and past regents. Past Regents attending were Nancy Maloney, Letty Calvetti, Gloria Kanick, Marianne Proch, Margaret Horchar, Rita Zaycosky, Valenti, Mary Violi, Mary K. Moreau, Mary Jane Hodak and Dorothy Maniccia.

A memorial service was held for deceased members 2012-13. They were Josephine Patti, Phyllis Rodack, Mary Sgriccia and Roseanne Palilla. Reading the prayers were Marianne Proch and Julie Receski. Lighting the candles was Mary Violi.

Presentation of Membership pins was held with membership chairman Valenti introducing Linda Yesilonis for a 25-year pin and Shirley Balint and Margaret Cunningham, for 50-year pins.

Each was pinned by Regent Mary Micco.

Letty Calvetti, past second vice national regent, congratulated the Catholic Daughters on their 95th wonderful years. She stated there are still members here when she joined. She urged all to continue to work and get new members to make the Court the best.

Entertainment was vocalist Wayne McAfoose, who played and sang Christian hymns and songs to remember.

Special thanks were given to officers and past regents; Corinne Howe for the flowers; Proch, Julie Receski, and Violi for the memorial; Violi, for the banner and greeter; Margaret Horchar, guest book; Letty Calvetti, Blessed Mother favors; Maniccia, acting treasurer; Mary Jane Hodak, registration; Gloria Kanick, delicious menu; and co-chairwoman Mary K. Moreau, planning and programs.

Floral centerpieces with candles were awarded as door prizes. Winners were Mary O. Kuzmovich, Carol Pappal, Mary Violi, Betty Sabor, Mary Pearce and Margaret Horchar.

Closing prayer was given by Spiritual Enhancement Chairman Mary K. Moreau.

A short meeting was held following the program and brought to order by Regent Mary Micco. It was voted to have all bills taken care of during the summer months. The Bishop’s Luncheon will be held June 22.

The St. Anne Home visit will be held July 26. Anyone wishing to join the Grandmothers’ Corp is to call the Regent. The annual picnic will be held Aug. 8 in the Church social hall. Come join us.

Elks Ladies auxiliary 931

Elks Ladies Auxiliary #931 Indiana held their monthly meeting June 6. Opening prayer was given by Debby Stolitza. President Linda Malin presided over the meeting.

Secretary Lavelle Bothel announced with regret that Past President Linda Malin is moving to Florida.

Connie Minich stated Bar Bingo will resume in September on the third Thursday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m.

Sandy Shaffer stated applications are available for the scholarship in the grill room.

Deadline is June 18. Magazines and coupons are still being collected each month.

Trustee Paula Burnett read the budget. It was voted on and accepted by the auxiliary. Past President Kay Bolo attended the June meeting. There weren’t any June birthdays. Winner of the penny drill was Linda Cornell.

Special thank you was given to chairwomen Cherise Cunningham, Ginny McGinnis and Diane Daskavich for the entertainment. Bingo was played and delicious strawberry shortcake was served. Door prize winnings were given to Loretta Lowman whose birthday is July 1 and to Ginny McGinnis whose birthday is Aug. 13.

Meetings will not be held in July or August.

The next meeting will be held Sept. 5.
