Elks Ladies Auxiliary #931 Indiana held its monthly meeting Sept. 5 with President Linda Malin presiding. Malin installed Jean Reefer as trustee.

Sandy Shaffer, scholarship chairwoman, announced that Kala Mantine, of Hollsopple, is the 2013 scholarship winner. She majors in speech, language, pathology and audiology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has earned 68 credits and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5. She works part time in the IUP office of Housing Residence Life and Dining, is an academic speech mentor in the office of Disability Support Services and a student textbook reader for students who are disabled. Her university activities are National Student Speech, Language Association member, residence hall council member at Stephenson Hall and Summer Housing 2013 representative. She has won the George Eastman Young Leaders award and the Girl Scouts of Talua Rock Bronze award.

Kala’s plans are to attend graduate school and earn a master’s degree and certificate of clinical competence in speech, language pathology and audiology. She wants to work in an educational school environment and wants to get married and have children.

Sandy also stated magazines are still being collected for the hospital. Marlene Buggey has volunteered to deliver them.

Cherise Cunningham is thanking those who volunteered to furnish drinks for the golf outing on Saturday.

Vice President Patricia Moorhead announced the covered-dish dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 5. Bring your favorite dish.

Celebrating birthdays in July were Barbara Norland and Loretta Lowman. August birthdays were Ginny McGinnis, Carol Neese, Connie Minich, Mary Tremel and Sabina Fiala. September birthdays were Jan Henefeld, Cherise Cunningham, Diane Daskivich and Twila Montgomery.

A special thank-you was given to Chairwomen Patricia Moorhead and Sherry Tedeski and their committee for the delicious refreshments. Adult trivia games were played. Winners were Jean Reefer, Kathy King, Diane Daskivich, Carol Neese and Linda Malin. Second game winners were Ginny McGinnis, Diane Daskivich, Sabina Fiala, Marlene Buggey, Kathy King, Jean Reefer and Barbara Norland.

Door prizes were two potted mums. Winners were Josephine Valenti and Debby Stolitza.

Next month’s meeting will be the covered-dish dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 5.
