The annual board meeting of the Evergreen Garden Club was held Jan. 20. Board members worked on a budget for the calendar year, addressed significant changes to the bylaws, adopted a program of events for 2014, and reviewed civic and community projects sponsored by the club.

Look for the ladies in the bright pink shirts tending the gardens of Silas Clark House in May, East Pike Elementary School and the Women’s Imaging Center at Indiana Regional Medical Center in June, and the Heritage Garden on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania in August. In addition to the club’s “Pink Outs,” individuals will be caring for the gardens from the onset of spring through late fall. Stop by and chat with them, share your thoughts or maybe you’d like to join us in the fun. There is always room for new members.

The February meeting of the Evergreen Garden Club is scheduled for Feb. 17 at the Trinity United Methodist Church social hall. Refreshments and social begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by guest speaker Bob Pollock, extension educator, Penn State Cooperative Extension. Pollock’s presentation will focus on nuisance and harmful insects in the home and garden. The public is welcome to attend. After the program the club will hold a business meeting.

Club members also extended appreciation to the guests, boutique vendors, entertainers, local media, merchants and restaurants, businesses of Indiana Borough, White Township, Homer City and Coral who were involved in Tinsel Time for helping to make it a success.

The generosity of those who participated made it possible for the club to offer two $1,000 scholarships to deserving students of Indiana County. Whether a 2014 graduating senior or a resident of the county attending a college or university, funds are available to offset the rising cost of education. Any student wishing to apply for a scholarship should communicate with their guidance counselor or student adviser beginning in mid-February. The scholarship deadline is June 15.
