CLUB NEWS: Evergreen Garden Club
EVERGREEN GARDEN CLUB
Members of the Evergreen Garden Club met March 17 in the social hall of Trinity United Methodist Church. A celebration of St. Patrick’s Day was enjoyed by the members with a presentation given by Georgette Syster, of Nolo, on “Fairies in the Garden”.
The club meets again April 21 at 12:30 p.m. (social) followed by a program on floral design. Judge Emeritus Jean Williams will critique designs by club members. The elements and principles of floral design will be discussed and each participant will have an opportunity to describe her creation.
Club members responsible for execution of designs include: Underwater, Barb Thomas; transparency, Sammie Mann; creative mass, Shirley Risinger; stretch, Marcy Cunkelman; still life, Marie Price; miniature, Cora Pierce; line design, Carla Eichman; reflective, Deborah Kuffa; tubular, Susan Wetzel; hanging, Christine Orchard; sculpture, Jenny Wenzel; and illuminary, Dorothy Lenz.
Anyone sharing an interest in gardening is welcome to join the club in the social hall to view “another side of garden club activity.”
Representatives of Evergreen Garden Club met with a community assistant at Indiana University of Pennsylvania to plan for a joint work session in the Heritage Garden on Earth Day, April 22. This public space located between Northern Suites and Keith Hall is enjoyed by many every day. The participation of students is a positive evolution for the garden.
Member volunteers are needed to host the scholarship table in May. If you can spare an hour or two, contact Carol Miller to sign up. Graduation is just around the corner so members need to get the word out. Scholarship applications must be postmarked by June 15. This is the club’s way of thanking the community for participating with the club in the fundraiser and to help young adults fulfill their life’s ambition.
Students wishing to apply for scholarship should contact their guidance counselors or student advisor.
