Yellow Creek State Park will hold a boating and water safety awareness course May 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The class will be held in the environmental learning classroom.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission course supplies boaters with practical information so they can make better-informed decisions on the water.

The course involves participants in the proper procedures for recreational boating and has participants demonstrate proficiency in boating and water safety. The course includes both classroom and in-water work.

A passing grade of 70 percent must be achieved. Instructors provide course materials to the participants.

Participants must bring swimwear and sturdy water shoes. Those who successfully complete this course may apply for a certificate issued by the commission (requires $10 fee).

This course is for those 16 and older. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch.

Registration is required. To register, call the park office at (724) 357-7913.
