100th BIRTHDAY: Elinor Blair

Elinor Gordon Blair is celebrating her 100th birthday today with an ice cream social from 1 to 3 p.m. at St Andrew’s Village in the social hall.

She was born on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus, where her father, McClellan Gordon, taught mathematics. Her mother, Emma, was in the class of 1907.

Her husband of 52 years, David Hall Blair, died in 1986. She is the eldest living and longest member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where for many years she was head of the primary department and its first female trustee.

Elinor is a graduate of Vassar College and holds advanced degrees from IUP in teaching, having taught English at Indiana High School for 20 years. She also started the Welcome Wagon program and was founding president of Indiana’s New Century Club and the senior living member of the Ingleside.

Her family will be joining her on this special occasion: sons McClellan and James and their wives Britta and Susan; grandchildren Elizabeth Wallwork, of Evansville, Ind.; Christina and Joseph Lubold, Indiana; Janet and James West, of Raleigh, N.C.; James and Idania Blair, of McMurray; Scott Blair, of South Bend, Ind.; Garrett Blair, of Stockton, Calif.; and Gordon Blair, of Louisville, Ky.; great-grandchildren James and Alexander Wallwork; Britta (Wallwork) and Jason Pate; Anthony, Elizabeth and Michael Lubold; Eric and David West; and Matthew, Isabella, and Emma Blair.

She also has great-great-grandchildren Emmy-Lou and Zella Pate, the latter of whom she will be meeting for the first time.
