100TH BIRTHDAY: Grace Filer

Grace Filer will be celebrating her 100th birthday next month.

The former Grace McFarland was born July 5, 1913, in Rossiter, the daughter of Armour and Carrie McFarland. She graduated from Rossiter High School and Indiana Business College. She spent some time working in Butler prior to her marriage to the Rev. H. Kenneth Courtwright in June 1942. Following his death, she returned to Indiana where she later married Arthur Filer. He passed away in 2001.

Mrs. Filer was employed for many years at the Indiana County Courthouse in the Commissioner’s Office.

She is a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church on Warren Road, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of Alliance women and the Golden Heirs.

She currently resides at Moorehead House.

Her family would like to invite her friends and former neighbors to an open house in her honor from 2 to 4 p.m. July 6 at Moorehead House, 116 Madison Circle, Indiana.

Mrs. Filer will be celebrating her birthday with her primary caregivers; her nieces Dorothy Painter and Pam Hankinson, of Rossiter; her sister Mary Bishop, of Butler; her brother Boyd McFarland and his wife Grace, of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The party will be entertained by Randy-Paul, who sings “country music through the eyes of a Christian.” The duo, consisting of the Rev. Paul Thompson, of Punxsutawney, and his son Randy, of York, will perform classics, hymns, and original songs written by Randy.
