Here's a periodic look at area students and their achievements and accomplishments in post-secondary education:

Joseph Velesig

WEST LEBANON — Joseph E. Velesig, of West Lebanon, was named to the dean’s list at Penn State University, main campus, for the fall semester.

He is the son of Jim and Cassi Velesig, of West Lebanon. Velesig is a 2011 graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School.

Michael Painter

Michael D. Painter, son of Alan and Patricia Painter, of Dayton, has been designated by the University of Pittsburgh as an honor student in the Swanson School of Engineering.

Painter also made the dean’s honor list for a grade-point average higher than 3.25.

Shippensburg University dean’s list

SHIPPENSBURG — The following area students were named to the dean’s list at Shippensburg University for the fall semester:

Apollo — Krista Williams

Belsano — Crystal Conzo

Patton — Heather Winter

Katherine Riggs

Katherine Riggs, of Saltsburg, was named to the fall dean’s list at The University at Albany, Albany, N.Y.

St. Bonaventure University dean’s list

The following Indiana-area students were named to the fall dean’s list at St. Bonaventure University, St. Bonaventure, N.Y.:

David Paccapaniccia, majoring in accounting; Kayla Jasper, majoring in biology; Faris Zuraikat, majoring in psychology; Alyssa Lombardi, majoring in sport studies; Connor Mack, majoring in undeclared arts.

Clarion University scholar-athletes

Several area students were among the student athletes honored as scholar-athletes at Clarion University’s 23rd annual Bob Carlson Scholar Athlete Luncheon Feb. 8 in the Gemmell Student Complex:

Indiana: Eli Gerald Rupert, a member of the football team; Crystal E. Miller, women’s soccer; Benjamin Charles Fiscus, football

Home: Nicole Suzanne Miloser, women’s basketball; Kiersten Mae Gromley, softball

To be named a 2013 scholar-athlete, student athletes must achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher; have two consecutive semesters of a 3.2 grade-point average or higher in the spring and fall terms of 2012; or be a freshman or new transfer who achieved a 3.2 grade-point average or higher in the fall 2012 term.

Emmanuel Speal

Emmanuel A. Speal, of Saltsburg, worked as an intern last fall with the Kiski School, Bell Township.

Speal, son of Dan and Patty Speal, is a senior at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, majoring in liberal arts and minoring in mathematics.

Saint Vincent College’s internship program allows students to work off campus to acquire career-related skills, earn academic credits, earn money and develop a professional network for future employment contacts.

Ryan O’Dell

WOOSTER, Ohio — Ryan O’Dell, a graduate of The Kiski School, Bell Township, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at The College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio.

O’Dell, a junior music major from Indiana, achieved a grade-point average of 3.65 or above.

Shannon Low

Shannon Leigh Low, Indiana, recently received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyo.

Connie Douglas

Connie L. Douglas, Ligonier, recently received a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyo.
