JACOB C. OGDEN
Jacob Ogden graduated magna cum laude in May from Gannon University, Erie, with a degree in biology. He is a 2009 graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School and will attend the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in the fall.
Jacob is the son of John and Jan Ogden, of Indiana.
Jonathan Mateer, of Indiana, graduated from Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, on May 19, 2013.
Mateer majored in history.
Nathaniel Satterfield, of Kittanning, has been named to the spring 2013 dean’s list at Mansfield University.
To be named to the dean’s list, a student must be attending the university full-time and attain at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester.
Mansfield University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Garnet Eulalia Fryling was named to the dean’s list at the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Va. for the spring 2013 semester. Dean’s list status refers to full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates who have completed at least 12 credit hours for a letter grade and earned at least a 3.6 grade point average. Fryling completed her junior year of study in spring 2013.
Fryling, the daughter of Calvin and Michelle Fryling, Indiana, is a 2010 honors graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School.
An anthropology major at William & Mary, Fryling will complete a field study in Barbados this summer, conducting archaeological excavations to examine the material conditions of the country’s earliest colonists.
BOB JONES UNIVERSITY
Incoming freshmen at Bob Jones University participated in summer orientation June 21 and 22.
Students and their parents attended informational sessions about the BJU experience, asked questions regarding academics, financial aid and student life and became familiar with the campus. Students were also able to receive academic and career counseling from faculty and register for their fall classes.
Attending from the area were:
• Paige Heiple, of Homer City, who will be majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology.
• Casey Newcomer, of Indiana, who will be majoring in health, fitness and recreation.
• Abigail Shirley, of Indiana, who will be majoring in nursing.
The university is located in Greenville, S.C.
Crystal Brinkley, of Indiana, has enrolled in Coastal Carolina University for the fall 2013 semester.
Before classes begin in August, all new first-year students will visit campus for a two-day orientation program where they will meet their academic advisors and learn what is expected of them as they transition from high school to college.
Coastal Carolina University is located in Conway, S.C., just minutes from the resort area of Myrtle Beach.
Keith Feldman, of Indiana, a fifth-year student in the computer science program in Rochester Institute of Technology’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2013 quarter.
RIT is located in Rochester, N.Y.
Irene M. Berman-Vaporis, of Indiana, has recently been named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the spring semester.
Each school and college at Boston University has their own criterion for the dean’s list, but students generally must attain a 3.5 grade point average or be in the top 30 percent of their class, as well as carry a full course load as a full-time student.
Evan Chandler, of Indiana, was named to the 2013 spring dean’s list at William & Mary College, in Williamsburg, Va.

FORT HAYS STATE UNIVERSITY
Three local students are among the 2,080 students who completed requirements for associate, bachelor and graduate degrees during the spring 2013 semester at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kan.
• James Edward Homerski, of Cherry Tree, received a Bachelor of Science degree in information networking and telecommunications.
• Gary Edward Filkins, of Northern Cambria, received a Bachelor of Science degree in information networking and telecommunications.
• Joseph Anthony Homerski, of Northern Cambria, received a Master of Liberal Studies in management information systems.
BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY
Two area students graduated from Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, Ohio, during ceremonies on May 3 and 4 at the Stroh Center.
Jennifer Beatty, of Indiana, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in education & human development.
Carissa Mills, of Indiana, also receieved a bachelor’s degree in education and human development.
The University of Hartford announced that Katelyn Skinner, of Homer City, has been named to its dean’s list for spring 2013.
The university is located in West Hartford, Conn.
Alexis Stutzman, of Indiana, was one of more than 750 graduates to receive a diploma at Harding University’s commencement exercises May 11. Harding is located in Searcy, Ariz.
Stutzman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in advertising.
