SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Two area students majoring in mathematics have been selected by the Mathematics Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a scholarship.

Katherine M. Browe is the recipient of the Ken and Lois Widdowson Scholarship, which provides financial support to any full-time mathematics major student at IUP who has graduated from Indiana Area Senior High School.

Browe, daughter of Andrew C. Browe and Paula J. Browe, White Township, is a 2013 graduate of Indiana High. She is a member of Pre-Service Teachers of Mathematics.

Celeste Catalano is the recipient of the Roy A. Daugherty Scholarship, which is awarded to either a son or daughter of a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity who attended IUP, lives in West Deer Township, is a student from Valley High School who plans to teach math, or who the scholarship committee deems worthy.

Catalano, daughter of Dennis and Karen Catalano, of Lucernemines, is a 2009 graduate of Homer-Center High School. She is a recipient of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean’s Merit Scholarship and is a member of the Math Club.

BETHANY GEIGER

Bethany Geiger, of Indiana, graduated summa cum laude from Bard College at Simon’s Rock, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater arts and children’s literature.

She attended Indiana Area Senior High School before leaving after 10th grade to enter college early.

Geiger was one of 155 students to graduate from Simon’s Rock, the early college in Great Barrington, Mass., on May 26.

WILSON COLLEGE DEAN’S LIST

Danniele Fulmer, of Clymer, and Fallon Schoch, of Marion Center, earned dean’s list status at Wilson College for the spring semester:

To be eligible for dean’s list, a student must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

WESTMINSTER COLLEGE DEAN’S LIST

More than 400 Westminster College students earned dean’s list recognition for the 2014 spring semester. The dean’s list recognizes students who attain a grade-point average of at least 3.6 out of a possible 4.0.

Area students who earned dean’s list recognition are:

• Hannah Shaffer, who earned a degree in early childhood/special education, is a daughter of Mark Shaffer, of Apollo, and Susan Shaffer, of Vandergrift. She is a graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School.

• Melissa Williams, who earned a degree in English, is a daughter of Clifford Williams. She is a graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School.

• Christopher Caroff, a sophomore biochemistry major, is a son of George Caroff and Kimberlie Bolinger, of Linthicum, Md. He is a graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School.

• Sean Gibbon, a junior business administration and accounting major, is a son of Donald and Debra Gibbon, of Indiana. He is a graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School.

• Nicholas David Smith, a senior psychology major, is a son of Jonathan and Mary Frances Smith, of White Township. He is a graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School.

• Samantha Shick, a senior biology major, is a daughter of Michelle Shick and Dale Shick, of Marion Center. She is a graduate of Marion Center Area High School.

• Alec Fisanick, a junior history and political science major, is a son of Christian and Annette Fisanick, of Nicktown. He is a graduate of Northern Cambria High School.

• Michael Mikita, a junior biology major, is a son of Michael and Sherry Mikita, of Rural Valley. He is a graduate of West Shamokin High School.

CORENA ALLEN

Corena L. Allen, of Homer City, recently graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Arts degree upon completion of course requirements during the spring semester.

Allen is a 2010 graduate of United High School.

SHALEE ANTISDEL

Shalee Antisdel, of Clymer, was named to the dean’s list at South Hills School of Business & Technology in State College for the spring term.

A second-year student in the diagnostic medical sonography program, Antisdel is a 2012 graduate of Purchase Line High School.

AUDREY STAPLETON

Audrey Stapleton, of Indiana, was named to the dean’s list at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania for the spring 2014 semester.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled full time and attain a quality-point average of at least 3.5.

She is a 2013 graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School.

HALEY STAPLETON

Haley Stapleton, of Indiana, was named to the dean’s list at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colo., for the spring semester.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in 12 or more traditionally graded credits and have a grade-point average of at least 3.75.

She is a 2013 graduate of Indiana Area Senior High School.
