Apple fest scheduled for this weekend in Smicksburg

SMICKSBURG — The 2013 Smicksburg Apple Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The following businesses will participate:

• The Drying Shed — Apple butter and apple cider making demonstrations; local apples, pumpkins, gourds and mums for sale; apple bake sale (benefiting the Diabetes Association); annual cornstalk decorating demonstration and sale; live entertainment

• Yoder’s Country Living — Saturday: Free wagon rides through the Amish countryside, entertainment, clowns, face painting and balloon sculpting; Saturday and Sunday: bake sale, sample your favorite fall dips and a special sale in the inventory building

• The Country Cupboard — Apple butter and harvest jams; apple cobbler mix; Windgate Winery’s apple wine for sale; sample delicious apple dips and candies; cookie decorating for the children

• Little Mahoning Creek Pottery — Pottery demonstrations; deep dish pie plates; cobbler baking dishes; brie baking dishes; tea pots; bowls; serving dishes and so much more. All pottery is wood-fired, salt-glazed and handmade in Smicksburg

• The Village Eatinghouse/ Sampler — Apple pies, dumplings, strudels, crisps and cider; festival foods outside; fudge; kettle corn; entertainment

• The Primitive Peddler — New inventory of painted accents tables; antiques; tent sale; “The Hot Dog Guy”; face painting; Amish selling produce and baked goods; live music on Saturday

• Windgate Winery — Stop by and sample delicious Windgate apple wine

• Downtown Smicksburg Amish Country Store — Locally grown mums and fall d←cor; visit the wine cellar; sample dips

• Smicksburg Country Store — Homemade ice cream; hot dogs with sauerkraut; select cheeses and meats

• Little Mahoning Creek — Pottery demonstrations, brie baking dishes, tea pots, bowls, serving dishes and more; wood-fired and salt-glazed pottery handmade in Smicksburg

• The Country Junction — Experience the area’s most popular restaurant in the heart of Amish country; home-style meals offered as well as homemade desserts; seasonal ice cream
