Area Memorial Day services planned

Several ceremonies are on tap to commemorate Memorial Day.

 

ALVERDA — McDowell Cemetery, near Spruce, will hold a Memorial Day service at 2 p.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Pastor Scott Mansfield, of Indiana Church of Christ. Between 10 a.m. and noon Monday, there will be a veterans’ service.

BLAIRSVILLE — Blairsville will conduct its 146th Memorial Day parade and program on Monday.

The parade will begin at the gazebo on West Market Street at 10:30 a.m. and continue to the Blairsville Cemetery, where the program will be conducted at the Veterans Circle. The parade is sponsored by VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.

Chris Kough, Indiana resident and Pennsylvania American Legion Western Level Adjutant and Post #141 member, will be the keynote speaker.

BURNSIDE — A Memorial Day service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Burnside Cemetery. The speaker will be Pastor Doug Brink, and music will be provided by the Purchase Line High School band.

HILLSDALE — Rowley Cemetery, Hillsdale, will hold a Memorial Day service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Pastor John Traxler of the Calvary Bible Church, East Run, will be the speaker.

HOMER CITY — Memorial Day services will be held at the Homer City American Legion Post 493 at 11 a.m. Monday. Refreshments will follow.

INDIANA — The Indiana Area High School Band will perform at Indiana’s Memorial Day program, starting at about 10:30 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park, next to the old National Guard armory.

Indiana Mayor George Hood will be the master of ceremonies for the program that will honor veterans from all wars.

ROSSITER — Pine Cemetery Church, Rossiter, will hold a Memorial Day service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Please bring a memory to share.

ISELIN — A Memorial Day service will be held at the Iselin Union Cemetery Monday at 11 a.m.

PLUMVILLE — The Marion Center Area High School Band will perform in Plumville’s annual Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by the Plumville Lions Club.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. Monday from the Citizens’ Ambulance Service building and proceed west through town on Route 85.

Anyone wishing to participate in the parade should gather at the staging area about 10:15 a.m.

SALTSBURG — Saltsburg American Legion Post #57 will host a Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. Monday at the Edgewood Cemetery in Saltsburg. A light luncheon will be held at the legion following the service.
