Area native to appear on 'The Price is Right'

A Lucernemines native will be featured Tuesday on “The Price is Right.”

Christopher Catalano, 24, grew up watching the long-running game show with his father, he said, and has always been a fan. Earlier this month, he got his chance on a trip to Los Angeles with a fellow Homer-Center High School graduate, Tommy Garvin.

“We’re definitely fans,” Catalano said Saturday by telephone from Philadelphia, where he now lives.

The two got tickets to see the show in Studio City, Calif., and Catalano was chosen to appear on “contestants’ row,” the first stage in the game show.

“No one knows if their name is going to be called,” he said. “It’s so loud in there. Everyone is so energetic.”

So much so that audience members only really know they have been picked to “come on down” by reading a cue card from on stage.

Though he’s been a longtime fan of the show, the game Catalano got to play was foreign to him.

He did say that host Drew Carey was very congenial and did stand-up comedy during set changes for the audience of more than 300 people. “He’s very cool.”

Did he win big? You’ll have to tune in to find out. An agreement with “The Price is Right” prevents him from saying much about his time on the show.

“It wasn’t life-changing, but it was a nice experience,” he said.

Catalano, the son of Karen and Dennis Catalano, of Lucernemines, will appear on the show Tuesday at 11 a.m. on KDKA. He, for one, has a party planned for that hour with his colleagues at work.
