Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Armstrong County Camp Cadet program sponsored by the Kittanning station of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Camp Cadet is a weeklong summer camp hosted by and located at Lenape Technical School in Manor Township for boys and girls ages 12 to 15. This year, Camp Cadet is scheduled from July 20 to 25. Applications must be submitted by June 1.

Boys and girls attending Camp Cadet stay at the camp in the care of state police officers and civilian counselors. During the week, the kids are introduced to various law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, Secret Service, local police departments, sheriff’s offices and units of the state police such as the Aviation Patrol Unit, Vice Unit, Computer Crime Unit and Special Emergency Response Team.

Cadets will tour the Armstrong County courthouse and meet the judges and district attorney. The cadets also participate in sports, swimming and other group activities. The camp offers demonstrations of first aid, fire department rescue techniques and the hazards of explosives. At the end of the week, cadets completing the camp will receive certificates and awards from state police officers at a formal graduation ceremony. It is the goal of Camp Cadet to give young people a better understanding of law enforcement and to encourage good citizenship.

Applications or a postcard with the applicant’s name, address, date of birth, home municipality, parents’ names and telephone numbers should be sent to: Camp Cadet Director, Pennsylvania State Police, 184 Nolte Drive, Kittanning, PA 16201.
