ARSD: Teachers to vote on new contract
Teachers in the Apollo-Ridge School District have reached a tentative labor agreement with district officials.
The Apollo-Ridge Education Association and the school district reached the tentative deal Aug. 13. The union's rank-and-file were given the proposal Monday.
Union president James Begolly could not be reached for comment this morning.
Board president Gregory Primm declined to discuss terms of the tentative agreement, saying he didn't think he could until after it had been approved by the teachers.
However, he said he is satisfied with the terms of the contract.
“From my perspective, I think it's a good deal,” he said.
The previous five-year contract expired Aug. 1. The district and its teachers have been negotiating since November 2007.
Thursday is the first day of class for the district's 1,500 students.
The union represents 119 teachers.
