Borough police make arrest in heroin case
Indiana Borough police have arrested a man they say was responsible for delivering heroin to one of the two people sent to Indiana Regional Medical Center for treatment of overdoses over the weekend, Detective John Scherf said Monday.
The man, who was not named, was arrested over the weekend on unrelated heroin delivery charges and was placed in the Indiana County Jail; Scherf said charges related to the overdoses may be forthcoming, and that police are still investigating the situation, looking for a second source.
Police had previously reported that a juvenile and a 26-year-old man were found unresponsive after using heroin around 6:30 p.m. Friday and 9:50 a.m. Saturday, and that they were investigating the possibility that a bad batch of heroin was on the street.
Both were taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center, where Scherf said they have been treated and released. Police have not yet determined whether they will face charges, he said.
Scherf said lab results have not been returned, but that it appears both victims overdosed.
