Business fair features national marketing expert

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Diversity Council will present a daylong seminar, “Make Us Your Business: The Nuts and Bolts of Doing Business with IUP and Other Public Agencies,” on June 20.

The seminar will be from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex.

Activities will include panel discussions with business and agency representatives and an afternoon keynote presentation by author and internationally known marketing and advertising expert Kelly McDonald.

The program is designed for anyone who wants to do business with public Pennsylvania agencies and learn more about our nation’s changing demographics. The program will be especially relevant for minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned and small businesses.

The cost of the event, which includes a luncheon buffet, refreshments and a copy of McDonald’s latest book, “Crafting the Customer Experience for People Not Like You,” is $45. Registration is required by Friday and can be made by calling IUP Procurement Services at (724) 357-3077 or by visiting www.iup.edu/ procurement.

A Dell tablet will be given to one of the registered participants.

Welcoming remarks will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will include Mark Geletka, IUP associate vice president for facilities management; Dr. Cornelius Wooten, IUP vice president for administration and finance; representatives from the offices of state Sen. Don White and state Rep. Dave Reed; and James B. Struzzi II, president of the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce.

Ray Wygonik, director of facilities engineering and construction at IUP, will present “Making IUP Your Business,” followed by Robert Unger, contract specialist at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, presenting “Making PASSHE Your Business.” DeShawn Lewis, director, Bureau of Small Business Opportunties; Gayle Nuppnau, procurement liaison; and Oslwen Anderson, construction liaison, all from the Department of General Services, will be guests for a panel presentation titled “Making DGS Your Business.”

A “How We Do Business With Government” panel presentation will follow, with Ron Moreau, IUP, panel moderator; Kathy Agostino, Mascaro Construction; Emilio Posa, Simplex Grinell; Elizabeth Bowers, dck worldwide, LLC; Steve Hoyng, Aramark; Greg Spencer, Randall Industries; and Beth Gregg, Environmental Land Surveying and Solutions.

McDonald’s presentation will follow the luncheon.

McDonald, owner of McDonald Marketing, a firm in Texas, is considered one of the nation’s top experts in multicultural marketing and consumer trends. Her client experience includes brands such as Toyota, Kimberly-Clark, Nike, Harley-Davidson, Miller-Coors and Sherwin-Williams. She was named No. 1 on the list of “26 Hot Speakers” by “Successful Meetings Magazine” and “Advertising Age” has twice named her company one of the top ad agencies in the U.S.

She has been featured on CNBC, in “Forbes,” “Bloom-berg BusinessWeek,” The New York Times, “Fast Company,” on “CNNMoney. com” and on Sirius/XM Radio.

She is the author of two books. Her first, “How to Market to People Not Like You,” was No. 7 on the list of best-selling business books of 2011. Her most recent book, which will be given to all registered participants, is titled “Crafting the Customer Experience for People Not Like You.”
