CARL KOLOGIE: Perfect evening for BAH

by on July 28, 2013 2:50 AM

It was finally a perfect evening — following the persistent rain and uncomfortably high humidity the past several weeks — and the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce couldn’t have selected a better venue for its Thursday event.

Chamber’s Business After Hours was held at Laurel Place on Philadelphia Street and hosted by The Reschini Group and two street-level businesses in the building, The Finery For Men and Upstreet Financial.

Held monthly, these chamber events provide members an opportunity to network their businesses with other businesses in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

And it presented an opportunity to meet the new chamber president, Jim Struzzi, who took over the position in April following the retirement of longtime president Dana Henry.

Struzzi is no stranger to Indiana County as he had served as public relations coordinator for PennDOT’s District 10 at its office in White Township several years ago. It was also the debut of Taze, Indiana’s newest restaurant that will be opening in mid-August at the site of the former Train Station Restaurant along Philadelphia Street.

Owners Levent and Mary Beth Akbay and staff members were there to cater the event.

A variety of scrumptious offerings included caviar, stuffed cucumbers, bite-sized filet, shrimp and vegetable risotto and burgers made of lamb could be sampled by the guests at the event.

Levent Akbay said that Taze is scheduled for a “soft opening” next month, offering dinner selections. He has set Aug. 13 as a target date.

Joe Reschini and other staffers of The Reschini Group were on hand to mingle with the guests in attendance.

And Dave Meyers of Upstreet Financial had his office open — with a variety of desserts in the office to entice chamber members in for a look around.

Terry and Johanna Leach extended guests an invitation into The Finery for Men, where more food lured in the evening’s guests, along with specials on various clothing lines.

The Leaches have been in the clothing business for more than 20 years in Indiana and moved to Laurel Place several years ago after maintaining their upscale men’s and women’s clothing store in downtown Indiana.

The next scheduled Chamber After Hours event is Aug. 21 with the 700 Shop, 700 Philadelphia St., and Intimately Yours, 14 S. Seventh St., around the corner, as the hosts.

Guest were also reminded that the chamber is adding another special event this month to be hosted by Indiana contractor Don Huey. This “special” after hours event will be held Aug. 9 at Huey’s Farm at 23 Campbell Lane off Airport Road in White Township.

Described as an “old-fashioned country bash,” Huey is holding the event to thank his fellow Indiana County chamber members and customers.

Huey said there will be live entertainment from popular country rock band New Roots, excellent food, a bon fire and plenty of refreshments.

Unlike the other chamber outings, this event is scheduled from 5 to 11 p.m. So change into your jeans after work and be prepared for an old-fashioned hoedown.

For more information on Huey’s summer party, call the chamber at (724) 465-2511 or visit the website at indianacountychamber.com.
