CLUB NEWS: CD of A, Elks Auxiliary list activities

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS CT. ST. BERNARD #339 INDIANA

The Catholic Daughters Ct. St. Bernard #339 Indiana held its 96th anniversary dinner on Thursday, June 12, in the St. Bernard’s Social Hall with 71 in attendance. It was catered by the Home Made Restaurant.

Invocation was given by Gloria Kanick, the Bishop’s Medal of Honor recipient.

Regent Josephine Valenti gave the welcome. She said it gave her great pleasure to see so many there. She thanked the outgoing officers for all their hard work. She introduced the new officers who will be busy with her making the yearbook and getting new members for the Court. She hopes to see all at the monthly meetings. Father Tom starts the rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Congratulations were given to Sister Siedlarcryk (Sister William Mary) of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden on her 60th year as a nun. She was the Court’s guest, and the Regent presented her with a gift.

Also, congratulations were extended to Joan Lazor. She was the third-place finisher in the state poetry contest. Her poetry was displayed on a Blessed Mother Card and given to each person attending the dinner. Barbara Turnbull attended the dinner and received her daughter Monica’s third-place state award in computer art.

The memorial service was held by Marianne Proch and Mary Violi. Deceased members honored were Virginia Druchniak and Maxine Previte, also Catholic Daughters and Chaplains of the order.

Presentation of Membership pins were given by Valenti, assisted by past regent Mary K. Moreau. Fifty-year pins were given to Kanick, Irene Onuscheck, Marlene Stankiewicz, Louise Strittmatter and Valenti. Twenty-five-year recipients were Catherine Andrie, Annette Cusimano and Diane Onuscheck. Unable to attend the dinner were Theresa Krynock, Donna Pike and Judy Sipos, who were also honored for 25 years.

Greetings were given by Letty Calvetti, past second vice national regent and state leadership chairman. She congratulated the new officers and is looking forward to working with them as vice regent.

Past regents were introduced by Valenti. They were Nancy Maloney, Calvetti, Kanick, Rita Zaycosky, Marianne Proch, Valenti, Margaret Horchar, Mary Violi, Dorothy Maniccia and Mary Micco.

Entertainment was vocal selections by Carolyn Violi, who also played the piano. She is with the Department of Theatre at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Before going to Birmingham, she was with “Beauty and the Beast” as director for eight years. She was wonderful.

Beautiful potted plants adorned the tables and were given as prizes. Winners were Gertrude Schuller, Marybeth Evan, Dan Minor, Margaret Horchar, Rita Zaycosky, Marlene Stotsky, Dorothy Maniccia, Nancy Taylor, Kanick, Moreau, Trish Dalecki and Valenti.

The closing prayer was given by Kanick.

A short meeting was held by Valenti. A motion was made to pay the bills in the summer months.

The Regent announced the following events. A bloodmobile was held from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 20.

The August picnic will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, in the church social hall. It will be a Country Festival, so come in your country clothes and have fun.

The covered-dish dinner will be held in September.

The Grandmothers Workshop will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Bernard’s. Reservations will be required. The reception of new members will be held on Oct. 9. Try recruiting new members. A fall card party luncheon will be held Oct. 22.

ELKS LADIES AUXILIARY #931

Elks Ladies Auxiliary #931 Indiana held its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 5, with President Patricia Moorhead presiding. Chaplain Sabina Fiala read the opening prayer.

Past president Linda Malin thanked the Auxiliary for her years as president and said she enjoyed it very much.

A motion was made to pay the bills for the summer months. Treasurer Connie Minick will be sending out dues letters.

Bar bingo will not be held until September.

The pig roast was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Elks Lodge.

Toni Bellock reported the small games of chance sessions were held at Rustic Lodge on Wednesday. Minick and Moorhead attended for the Auxiliary.

Sandy Shaffer, scholarship chairman, is urging members to get applicants for the scholarship. Applications are available in the grill room. Magazines and coupons are still being collected.

Initiation was held for new member Paula Cummins.

Trivia was played for entertainment. Winners were Kathy King, Loretta Lowman and Mary Tremel. Door prize winners were Letty Calvetti and Nancy Zellman. The penny drill winner was Rosetta Jobe.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4. Come join us.
