Drop ’n’ shop
A “Drop ’n’ Shop” for infants and children through grade 6 will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Graystone Church, Indiana. The teaching theme is based on the Jesse Tree.

PENN RUN — A pasta buffet will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Penn Run Christian Outreach Center, 75 Grace Church Road, Penn Run.
The menu consists of spaghetti, penne, meatballs in sauce, sausage sauce, alfredo sauce, stuffed shells, California blend vegetables, salad, bread and dessert.
The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 through 11.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — As part of their Christmas tour, gospel great Ernie Haase and Signature Sound will be in concert at 6 p.m. today in the auditorium at Punxsutawney High School. Pastor Paul Price of Cornerstone Worship Center has announced the 2013 Advent message series titled “Jesus Our Shining Light” will start Sunday and continue in each service leading up to Christmas Eve.
The messages will be at 8:30 and 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The message titles will be: “Jesus the Great Light,” “The Purity of the Light,” “The Constancy of the Light,” “The Vitality of the Light,” “The Victory of Light” and “The Glory of Light.”
All are welcome to attend the traditional “Music Sunday” service at 8:45 a.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church, corner of Seventh and Church streets, Indiana.
The Christmas story will be retold with songs, carols, scripture readings and other special music presented by the Christmas Chancel Choir, Master’s Jazz Ensemble, Agape Handbells and Sacred Praise Liturgical Dancers.

GLEN CAMPBELL — The Historic First Baptist Church of Glen Campbell will hold its Christmas musical program at the usual worship hour of 10 a.m. Sunday.
The program will feature many favorite Christmas carols and festive Advent music played on the pipe organ by church music director Mitchell Jerko and sung by a full choir under his direction. There will also be congregational singing.
This adapted service featuring beautiful music is in place of the church’s traditional worship. Pastor Allan N. Campbell will have a short homily titled “Welcoming Emmanuel!”, based upon readings from Isaiah 11:10 and Matthew 3:1-2. The entire program should be a good time for whole families to worship together for about one hour.

Swiss steak dinner
ROBINSON — The Helping Hands of Robinson Evangelical United Methodist Church will hold a Swiss steak dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the church building, 332 Mary St., Robinson. The cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children 4 and younger. Takeout is available.
RURAL VALLEY — The Hallelujah Choir of the NuValley Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary, 901 E. Main St., Rural Valley. An Advent luncheon will be held from noon to 1:15 Tuesday and Dec. 17 in the social hall at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 S. Sixth St., Indiana. Everyone is welcome.
A choice of homemade soups, homemade breads and desserts are on the menu. There is no charge for the meal, but free-will offerings are appreciated and will benefit the Zion Community Food Pantry.

Cookies by the mile
HOMER CITY — St. Mary’s Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church, 279 Yellow Creek St., Homer City, is having a cookies by the mile sale from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 14 in the social hall. Many varieties will be available. The cost is $5 per dozen, mix and match (no limit unless necessary). Please bring your own containers. No early birds.
HOMER CITY — The Living Light Cantata will be presented by the choir, junior/senior high class and children’s class at the 10 a.m. worship service Dec. 15 at Hope Lutheran Church, 35 Ridge Ave., Homer City.
The presentation explores various perspectives on the birth of Jesus Christ. The presentation will also be made in the afternoon at Maple Valley Personal Care Home and St. Andrew’s Village.
Journey through Bethlehem
COMMODORE — Journey through Bethlehem on a guided tour of a live Nativity between 5 and 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Purchase Line United Methodist Church, Commodore. Come see the angels, shepherds, the Magi, King Herod, Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus.
Refreshments and a children’s craft will follow each guided tour. Everyone is welcome to attend.
SHELOCTA — A benefit spaghetti dinner for the medical expenses of Dennis Buterbaugh will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at Christ Lutheran Church, 205 Gastown Road, Shelocta.
The price is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 3 to 10 and free for ages 2 and under. Takeouts are available.
A candlelight service celebrating “The Birthday of the King” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at Crete Presbyterian Church, 25 Brady Road, Indiana.
June Weber, music director for 25 years, will direct the senior and junior choirs, trumpets, cello and violin. Randy Stear is the Bible storyteller. The pastor is the Rev. Katie Ward Stear. A festive reception will follow.

Pastor James McCaulley has completed a Christmas album, “Behold The Wonder,” recorded at the North Recording Studio with Jake Snyder as recording engineer. Musical background is provided by the North Recording Studio Band, with background vocals by Tina Marie, Jake Snyder and Pastor McCaulley.
The title song portrays Jesus Christ as the Wonder of Christmas. Other songs on the recording include “Joy to the World,” “Silent Night,” “O Holy Night” and “New Star Shining.”
Other recordings by Pastor McCaulley also available are “Heaven’s Sounding Sweeter” (songs about heaven), “Go Rest High On That Mountain” (recorded in memory of his son, Sgt. 1st Class Randy McCaulley, who was killed in Iraq), “The Old Country Church” (old-time favorites) and “Partners In Emotion” (recorded in memory of his wife, Donna).

Mission trip to Holy Land
A unique mission trip to the Holy Land, led by Jan Ogden, of Indiana, will take place April 27 to May 9, 2014.
Visit the land where Jesus lived, walked and was crucified. The journey incorporates volunteering and serving the people who live in the Holy Land while also visiting holy sites.
