Fire officials warn of fake solicitors
Leaders of the Cherryhill Township and Clymer volunteer fire departments reported that residents of their service areas have been approached by telephone solicitors conducting deceptive fundraising campaigns.
The departments do not raise money by phoning people, yet the callers — who have not been identified — claim the money they collect will benefit the local departments, said Cherryhill Township Fire Chief Jody Rainey.
“We know nothing” about the callers, Rainey said. “Our solicitations are done via mail.
“Anyone who has a question about the legitimacy of these fund solicitations should call the fire department for verification,” he said.
