Fox to feature local manufacturer
SALTSBURG — A Saltsburg manufacturer is set to receive a bit of national exposure later this week, courtesy of the Fox Business Network.
The manufacturer, Winchester Industries, will be the focus of the two-minute Manufacturing Marvels segment that airs during the network’s The Willis Report. Winchester is a maker of high-end replacement vinyl windows sold under its Bristol and Oxford brand names.
President Michael Sugrue said the production company responsible for Manufacturing Marvels learned of the business after happening upon a press release announcing its 30th birthday, which it celebrated last month. Winchester was started by Robert Weis and George Yuhasz, two former Season-All employees.
Sugrue said the production company spent five or six hours filming on site last week and worked with executives on the narration that accompanies the footage. The segment is being edited now, he said.
Manufacturing Marvels is produced by Marvel Production Group in Dallas. According to its website, it highlights American manufacturers to promote American manufacturing. It also gives full script approval to the companies it highlights.
“All profiles are both educational and promotional,” it states. “They are not news stories or editorials.”
Sugrue said Winchester has several things to be proud of, aside from its 30 years in operation. One is the more than 2 million windows it has produced in that time. That’s an average of about 66,670 per year.
Also, he said, are its loyal employees. In doing research for its anniversary, the company found that 71 percent of the workforce has been with the company for at least 27 years, Sugrue said.
The recession and resulting downturn in the housing markets have hobbled many in the fenestration industry, but Sugrue said he believes Winchester has remained afloat due in part to its aversion to debt.
He said owners’ philosophy always has been to reinvest in the business. He said that if Winchester had been leveraged when the hard times hit, he’s not so sure what would have become of the business.
The segment is scheduled to air between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. on Friday, according to the company.
