FUND DRIVE ROLLS ON

on September 07, 2013 10:49 AM

Ed Coffman’s loved ones wanted to help him after a motorcycle accident earlier this year resulted in amputation of his leg.

But they would have never anticipated such an outpouring of support that an upcoming fundraising event has already garnered.

The Ed and Candy Coffman benefit ride, hosted by the Blairsville F.O.E. 1488 Eagle Riders motorcycle group, is already exceeding expectations, according to Courtney Faser, the Coffman’s niece and an organizer of the event.

“This is turning into something I never imagined it would,” she said.

Not only have individuals stepped up to help; businesses like Luther Ford in Homer City have, too.

The Sept. 14 ride includes five stops: Pikel’s BP Inn in Home, Ironwood Grill in White Township, the Red Barn Sportsmen’s Club in Homer City, Griffith’s Tavern in Armagh and the Blairsville Eagles Club.

It’s open to not only motorcycles, Faser said, but also cars and trucks.

“It will just be a fun time from there and all the money we raise will go to my Uncle Eddie,” she said.

Proceeds will help cover medical and living expenses for Coffman, 40, and his wife, Candy.

Candy, 43, received minor injuries in the same accident.

She has taken time off work to care for her husband. The couple lives in Clarksburg.

Same-day registration is available at the Eagles Club starting at 10 a.m.

Benefit festivities, including food, raffles and music, will commence at the Eagles Club upon the riders’ return around 5 p.m.

Registration for the ride or the benefit alone is $10.
