Holiday service honors fallen soldier

Team Red, White and Blue held a service to place a wreath in honor of Lance Cpl. Joshua Twigg at the Indiana County War Memorial in front of the Indiana County Court House on Friday.

Twigg, a Penns Manor graduate formerly of the Penn Run area, was killed in action at age 21 in 2010 in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Twigg died while conducting combat operations while assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was the son of Randy and Terri Twigg, of Northern Cambria.

Twigg graduated in 2007 from Penns Manor. He played on the football team there and took several of the school’s vocational-agriculture and technical classes. He was listed as an honors student during his senior year.

Speaking at the event was Mike Weaver, Team RWB veterans outreach director.

Retired Marine Cpl. Cory Howard, Second AA Battalion, laid a wreath in front of Twigg’s name plate.
