The American Legion Post 102, Brookville, this weekend is hosting the “Cost of Freedom Tribute” and the “American Veterans Traveling Tribute” honoring veterans, military servicemen and servicewomen, police officers and firefighters.

The outdoors tribute exhibit, headquartered in Flint, Texas, is set up at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Brookville and includes the Traveling Vietnam Wall, a replica 80 percent the size of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The traveling wall is 380 feet long and contains all 58,253 names of servicemen and servicewomen who died in Vietnam. Laptops and hard-copy references are available at the display to help locate names on the wall.

The traveling display also includes A-frames with statistics from every war America has been involved in; World War II and Korean War panels with timelines, graphics and photos; panels honoring law enforcement officers and firefighters; a 9/11 tribute with the names of the 2,984 people who died in the terrorist attacks; and a Gold Dog Tag Tribute to service members who have given their lives in the global war on terror.

Sunday’s activities include a vesper service at 9:15 a.m., a First Responder Ceremony at 10 a.m., a remembrance ceremony at 1 p.m., introduction of Gold Star families and a release of doves during a closing ceremony.
