ICTC to host SkillsUSA event
The Indiana County Technology Center will host the District 8 SkillsUSA competitions on Monday.
Approximately 350 students and 150 advisers will attend the event, which provides students an opportunity to compete in more than 60 occupationally related competitions including advertising design, commercial baking, computer maintenance, extemporaneous speaking, electrical construction wiring and automated manufacturing technology and job interview.
Registration will begin at the Indiana Area Senior High School. From there, students will be bused to various sites for their competitions.
The majority of skill events will occur at the ICTC; however, the Indiana Senior High, Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, WyoTech, the Indiana fire station, and a local site secured by the Indiana-Armstrong Builders Association will host events as well.
Several events will be hosted out of the county at McKeesport and Forbes Road career and technology centers.
First-place district winners will have the chance to represent the district at the state competitions in Hershey in April.
SkillsUSA is a national student organization that develops employability, participatory and leadership skills to complement the occupational skills developed by students in their technical education classroom and work-based learning experiences.
