Indiana Area School District to host PMEA District 3 festival

The Indiana Area School District will host the 2014 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 3 Jazz Band Festival.

Three separate jazz bands made up of the finest jazz musicians from PMEA District 3 high schools will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Indiana Junior High School auditorium. General admission is $4 per person.

The guest directors for this concert are James Moore, Dale Hertrick and Evan Hertrick. Moore is the chairman of Jazz Studies at West Virginia Weslyan College and an alumnus of West Virginia University.

Dale Hertrick is a music instructor at the Pittsburgh Creative Academy for the Performing Arts. He is also the leader of the Burgh Big Band.

Evan Hertrick teaches in the Woodland Hills School District. He is a graduate of Youngstown State University and a former lead tenor sax player for the Pennsylvania All-State Jazz Band.

District 3 encompasses Armstrong, Clarion, Clearfield, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson and Venango counties.
