ART/MUSEUM EXHIBITS

The Artists Hand Gallery, 732 Philadelphia St., Indiana, presents The Indiana Art Association’s 73rd annual Spring Art Show, through June 28. The show will provide something for everyone in a wide variety of media and subjects. Most pieces will be for sale during gallery hours. The Indiana County Historical Museum, 621 Wayne Ave., Indiana, presents the following programs:

• “Celebrating 100 years of Girl Scouting,” an exhibit of uniforms, badges and other Girl Scout memorabilia

• 150th anniversary of the Civil War display, a look at the soldiers and civilians affected by the War Between the States

• Continuous exhibits detailing the history of Indiana County, including the county’s history of coal mining, Native Americans and military personnel

Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday and Monday. For information, call (724) 463-9600.

The University Museum in Sutton Hall at IUP presents “Pencil Paint Pixel: Twenty-Nine Years of Visual Communications,” through July 26. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The museum’s summer hours are Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursdays, 3 to 7 p.m.; and Saturdays, 1 to 5 p.m. Located on the first floor of IUP’s Sutton Hall, the museum is free and open to the community.

ENTERTAINMENT EVENTS

The Dillweed Bed & Breakfast in Dilltown wild hold the 16th annual Pick-A-Dilly Herb Faire, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free and open to the public. The one-day event is co-sponsored by The Herb Study Group of Indiana County. Enjoy a unique selection of area artisans selling country crafts; handmade beeswax products; hand-carved wood items for the home; embroidered artwork; all-natural gourmet herb vinegars, dips and seasoning blends; pasta mixes; and herb bean soups. Look for original botanical art; loose leaf and bagged herbal teas; hand-poured soap products and lip balms; jewelry; and other garden-inspired specialties.

Visitors to the event will gain valuable gardening information, growing tips and learn how to care for and cultivate their own herbal gardens. Explore the history and many uses of this year’s herb in the spotlight, artemisia. French tarragon (a member of the artemisia family) will be available for sale during the show. Concerts in the Park, held on Sundays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Memorial Park, Indiana, and sponsored by the Indiana Arts Council, will present the following shows:

• Somebody to Love (classic/variety), Sunday

• Northern Cambria Community Band, June 22

• Unknown String Band with Aaron & Eli (bluegrass/Americana), June 29

Admission is free. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

The Jimmy Stewart Airport Festival will start at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the airport, 398 Airport Road, White Township. This event includes displays of vintage and military aircraft, airplane rides, hay rides and food vendors. The Civil Air Patrol pancake breakfast will be held both days from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free World War II Big Band-era hangar dance will be held on Saturday with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Food will be available. Phil Vassar will be the headliner for the Indiana County Fraternal Order of Police Rhododendron Lodge 33 40th annual Country Music Show, at 1 and 6 p.m. July 20 at the J.S. Mack Community Center grandstands. Opening the show will be Larry Frick. Tickets are available by calling (724) 349-9114.

FILM

The Jimmy Stewart Museum, 835 Philadelphia St., Indiana, will present the following movies at 1 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in the third-floor theater:

• Saturday and Sunday, “The Spirit of St. Louis,” a 1957 production starring Stewart, Patricia Smith and Murray Hamilton. Stewart plays Charles Lindbergh in this story of Lindbergh’s flight across the Atlantic.

• June 21 and 22, “Pot O’ Gold,” a 1941 production starring Stewart, Paulette Goddard and Horace Heidt. Stewart leads a band of struggling musicians.

Museum admission: members, free; adults, $7; seniors, military, students with ID, $6; children 7 to 17, $5; children under 7, free. Prices are subject to change without notice. THEATER

The Indiana Players, at the Philadelphia Street Playhouse, 725 Philadelphia St., Indiana, will present:

• The fifth annual One-Act Festival, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

“The Wizard of Oz,” 7:30 p.m. July 18 and 19 and 24 and 26 and 2:30 p.m. July 20 and 27.
