IUP to hold part-time municipal police academy

The Criminal Justice Training Center at Indiana University of Pennsylvania is planning to conduct a part-time Municipal Police Academy at the IUP campus.

The start date is Oct. 31.

Also known as Act 120, the 758-hour basic police officer training course provides recruits with the professional skills necessary to function as a municipal police officer in Pennsylvania.

IUP is one of 16 schools in the commonwealth certified by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission to provide the Act 120 training.

The first testing date for the academy is Sept. 10, and the academy will run for approximately 11 months. Classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
