Library plans free programs

The Indiana Free Library will offer a full slate of free fall programs for all ages the week of Oct. 6:

Monday

• The Shape of the Letter, 10:30 to 11 a.m.: “A Triangle Forms the Letters M and N.” (Children’s Department)

• Dr. Marcus History Program, 1 to 2:30 p.m.: Prominent U.S. Socialist Leaders

We will consider the ideas, activities and importance of Eugene Debs, James Maurer and Norman Thomas. Come and learn how ideas can change a life. Admission and refreshments are free. (Reading Area).

• TalkAbout, 7 to 8 p.m.: “What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self?” (Reading Area)

Tuesday

• Which Twig Are You on the Family Tree? (Week 5), 10 a.m. (Community Room)

• Toddler Tales, 10:30 a.m.: “Fall Colors.” (Children’s Department)

• Free Blood Pressure Screenings, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Med-Express will be on-hand to do free blood pressure screenings. No appointment necessary. (Community Room)

Wednesday

• Preschool Story Time, 10:30 a.m.: “Wild Things.” (Children’s Department)

• Knitting Class, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (Community Room)

• The Fall Garden, 1 to 2 p.m., “Growing Garlic.”

Join Master Gardener Jim Woodard in this informative program on planting, growing and harvesting garlic. Free. (Community Room)

• One Book, One Community Event, 7 to 8:30 p.m.: “The Women of IUP During World War II.”

Theresa McDevitt will add our local color to the stories of World War II with a presentation about our history of the times. (Community Room)

• Crafty Wednesday, 7 p.m.: “Owl Puppet.”

Our library symbol is the owl, so we’ll use a variety of materials to assemble a fun puppet of this interesting night bird. For all ages. (Children’s Department)

• The Great Books Series Discussion, 7:30 p.m.: “The Emotions — Thomas Aquinas, David Hume, others.”

Join IUP’s Dan Shively for discussions on topics gleaned from the Great Books series. (Reading area)

Thursday

• Book Babies, 10:30 a.m.: “Tickle Tum.” (Children’s Department)

• IFL Book Club, 11 a.m.: “The Reader,” by Bernhard Schlink.” Refreshments. (Reading Area)

• Pins and Patches Quilting Group, 1 to 3 p.m. (Community Room)

Saturday

• Autumn Harvest Used Book Sale, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A feast of good reading. All proceeds benefit the local library. (Second floor)

• Elementary School Age Program, 11 to 11:30 a.m.: “Pyramid Adventure.” (Children’s Department)
