Line break interrupts water service

on July 03, 2014 2:05 PM

4:30 p.m. UPDATE: A spokeswoman from Pennsylvania American Water said water pressure has begun to rise and is almost back to normal. Service has been restored to IUP and Indiana Regional Medical Center.

Water service throughout Indiana Borough and in at least some parts of White Township has been disrupted owing to a water main break this afternoon. The break occurred at Fifth and Locust streets in Indiana. Pennsylvania American Water officials said they are working to shut off the line and will be providing more information later today.

Non-essential Indiana University of Pennsylvania employees were dismissed at 2:30, the university announced on Twitter (@IUPedu).

The Grove student apartments, First Commonwealth Bank headquarters and Indiana Regional Medical Center also reported being without water service. Low water pressure tripped some fire alarms, including at The Indiana Gazette.
