MARION CENTER: Borough sets trick-or-treating time

MARION CENTER — Halloween trick-or-treating in Marion Center Borough will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Marion Center council members Monday suggested that residents wanting to welcome trick-or-treaters to their homes that evening should turn on a porch light.

Borough Secretary Rob Barto said council in recent weeks completed a comprehensive project in which every street and alley in the borough was improved, some with micro-surfacing and tar-and-chipping. Drainage improvements were also made in some areas.

The borough’s council, down to four members following the resignations earlier this year of LuAnn Greek, Sharon McCoy and John Weaver, now has five members with the appointment of Phil Kriley.

A quorum is at least three members of the seated five members, Barto said.

Council President David Osgood recently noted the five seated council members — himself, Kriley, Dave Nycum, Richard Smith and Jan Elkin — and the borough’s mayor, Frank Pennington, are not native-born to Marion Center.

It’s possible the two remaining seats on council will be filled by candidates who run write-in campaigns in the November general election.
