The operator of a college textbook buyback stand was robbed by a customer about 3:25 p.m. Tuesday on Grant Street at Papermill Avenue, just outside the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus parking garage, Indiana Borough police reported.

A woman working for Penn Text Co. told police a customer sold two books to her, then pepper-sprayed her face and grabbed a bag of money from her.

The man fled toward Maple Street and eluded officers, who quickly mounted a search in the vicinity of the University Square buildings and Oakland Avenue near the Carriage House apartments.

Police said the suspect is a black man between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9, of average weight, with curly hair cut about 1 inch long and a goatee.

The man appeared to be in his early 20s, according to police. He wore a gray hooded sweat shirt.

Police reported the amount of money stolen wasn't immediately determined, and said the victim was not injured.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the holdup to phone the borough police at (724) 349-2121.
