KENWOOD — Penns Manor Area School District Superintendent Thomas “T.J.” Kakabar will leave his position for one closer to home, according to district officials.

Kakabar discussed his resignation with school directors at the Penns Manor Area school board committee meeting Wednesday.

He has accepted a superintendent post at the Conemaugh Township Area School District. The school district, business manager and board secretary Dave Kudlawiec said, is about 15 minutes from Kakabar’s home.

Kakabar’s resignation will be on the agenda when school directors convene for their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Kakabar, a Cambria County resident, came on board as Penns Manor Area’s superintendent in November 2006.

Before he took the district’s top administrative slot, Kakabar worked in the Portage Area School District, starting as assistant principal and athletic director then moving up to high school principal.

Before that, he was a high school social studies teacher in the Forest Hills School District.
