The Indiana Photo Club held its first meeting of the 2013-14 club year Sept. 18. Many new members were in attendance.

Member Tom Betts welcomed everyone and explained the format of the meetings and the role of the Indiana Photo Club. John Risinger provided an update on the results from the International Competition that occurred near the end of the 2012-13 club year. The Indiana Photo Club will be competing in Group D of the Projected Image Division of the Photographic Society of America.

Jim Reber, a local photographer and member of the group, treated members to his “Photo Tour of Tuscany,” featuring images taken on a recent trip to Italy. Reber’s photographs included both well-known scenes from Italy as well as some lesser known subjects.

Discussion included not only Reber’s photography but also historic and geographic references.

The monthly competition included 25 images, significantly more than at any recent meeting. Judges for the competition were Risinger, Fred Maize and Buddy Murphy. Tom Betts’ photograph titled “Morning Arch,” a scene from Arches National Park in Utah, scored first in the voting with 14 points. Sherrill Begres placed second with “Moon Over Death Valley,” and Allen Swartz’s photo “Child on the Beach,” was selected as the third-place photo. Honorable mentions were presented to “Bridge Walk,” by Sandy Oliver, and “White Sands,” by Begress.

The next meeting of the Indiana Photo Club will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in Room 104 of Keith Hall on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus. At this meeting, Risinger will be presenting images from recent International competitions in the PSA’s Projected Image Division, and members will be viewing and critiquing the images.

All meetings of the Indiana Photo Club are open to the public, and new members are always welcome. Anyone with an interest in photography, regardless of experience or skill level, may attend the meetings and participate in the discussions regarding photographic techniques and improving one’s images.
