Paul Wentzel Jr. senior legislative and police director of the Pennsylvania Department of Banking, right, and Dom Argento, a representative of Merck Pharmaceutical, talked about a piece of mock legislation Thursday during state Sen. Don White’s annual student government seminar at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

More than 100 students from 14 school districts in state Sen. Don White’s 41st District attended “The Future Starts Today” program, designed to show students how government functions and reacts to public policy issues.

Students were able to discuss bills in committee, write amendments to them, then vote on the legislation. Panelists from across Pennsylvania included elected officials, legislative staff members, members of the executive branch of state government and representatives from special interest groups.
