on May 24, 2014 10:49 AM

On Thursday, May, 1, 20 pre-K students attended a community field trip to the Saltsburg post office. They were led by teacher Kaitlyn Zukowski along with chaperones Kristin Stine, Maria Egenlauf, Chrisy Rupert, school nurse Kelly Yard and Pre-K instructional aide Joanie Adams.

Saltsburg postmaster Jan McGuire took the students on a tour of the post office, P.O. box lobby and retail window. One of the chaperones mailed a small package and explained where that package will travel. Saltsburg sales and associate clerks Evelyn McMillen and Joyce Colosmo helped with the transaction.

The students all got to deposit a letter in the inside mail drop, and they all received a stamp pin of the 33-cent Creating a World/ Adopting a Child stamp and a postal stationery note card to promote letter writing.

The field trip related to what the students are learning and provided them hands-on experiences in the community.

They also visited the fire department, Shop-N-Save grocery store, senior citizen center, S&T Bank and Fox’s pizza.

The students presented a large thank-you card signed by all to the post office, where it is on display.
