AROUND THE AREA: Indiana girls drop golf match

Indiana lost to Shady Side Academy, 201-206, in a WPIAL Section 3-AAA girls’ golf match Monday at Meadow Lane Golf Course.

Logan Everett led Indiana with a 47, followed by Alexa Strong at 48.

Chantal Sisko (53), Brooke Evans (58) and Gabby Groman (59) rounded out the Indians’ scoring.

Shady Side’s Casey Morrow was the medalist with a 42.

Indiana (5-6) visits Gateway on Wednesday.

Indians sweep volleyball match

Indiana swept Greensburg Central Catholic, 25-17, 25-18, 25-19, in a WPIAL non-section girls’ volleyball match Monday at Fifth Street Gymnasium.

Natalie Cignetti and Aaryn Gray led Indiana with five aces each. Cignetti had 12 kills and Gray had 11.

Indiana won the junior varsity match, 2-1.

Indiana (6-0) returns to section play this evening at home against Apollo-Ridge.

Ligonier Valley suffers first loss

LIGONIER — Ligonier Valley lost its first match of the season, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19 to Hollidaysburg, in a non-conference girls’ volleyball match Monday.

Ligonier Valley (6-1 overall) is 5-0 in the Heritage Conference and welcomes Penns Manor this evening in a matchup of conference unbeaten teams.

Rachel Wallace had 10 digs for the Rams, Taylor Rudnik had five blocks, and Amanda Ross added six kills.

 

Hollidaysburg won the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-8.

Knupp paces Calvary Baptist

PENN RUN — Andy Knupp scored a hat trick and dished out an assist in Calvary Baptist’s 5-1 win over Cambria County Christian in a high school boys’ non-conference soccer match Monday evening.

 

Jerry Zhang scored the Patriots’ other two goals, and Jimmy Yi added an assist. Joel Knupp made 16 saves in goal.

 

Calvary Baptist (6-1) plays host to DuBois Christian this evening.

Undefeated GCC tops Derry

DERRY — Derry lost to undefeated Greensburg Central Catholic, 4-1, in a WPIAL Section 1-AA tennis match Monday.

The Centurions (10-0) won the first four matches, including a sweep of all three singles matches.

Derry’s Abby Cox and Emma Crocker won at No. 2 doubles.

Derry (7-4, 7-3 section) will compete in the Section 1-AA doubles tournament on Wednesday at Mount Pleasant.

• Indiana lost a junior varsity tennis match, 3-2, to Franklin Regional on Monday.

Eugina Chun won 8-0 at No. 1 singles, and Jennifer Han scored an 8-3 win at No. 2 singles.

IASB teams win matches

The Indiana Area Soccer Boosters travel teams went 3-1 over the weekend.

The Indiana U-12 girls’ Storm beat East Allegheny, 7-1, behind two goals each from Hannah Scardina and Emily Sebring. Caelia Williams, Isabel Tillet and Renee Hill added a goal each. Hill and Alicia Mitchell split time in goal.

The U-10 boys’ Blackhawks beat the Pittsburgh Dynamo Stars, 8-1. Noah Grattan scored a hat trick and Ethan Kutz added two goals. Vince Belice and Isaac Myers had a goal and an assist each. Lee Rosenberger added a goal, Kobi Parks had two assists, and Kaeden Parks chipped in an assist. Kutz, Jack Mock and Xander Williams each spent time in goal.

The U-12 boys’ Red Hawks beat Loyalhanna, 4-3. Ethan Shearer and Cian Williamson-Rea scored two goals apiece. Cameron Walls and Williamson-Rea were the goalkeepers.

The U-12 boys’ Blackhawks lost to Norwin, 3-2. Aaron McKelvy and Josh Kardell scored Indiana’s goals. Jack Turner played in goal.

Nagle scores hole-in-one

Karl Nagle, of Indiana, scored a hole-in-one Monday at Meadow Lane Golf Course.

Nagle aced No. 5, which was playing at 115 yards, using a pitching wedge.

The witnesses were Roger Finotti and Nick Kanyan.
