by The Indiana Gazette on August 17, 2013 11:00 AM

IUP’s Dylan Tice capped a record-setting summer baseball season with a couple pieces of hardware earlier this week.

Tice, the Crimson Hawks’ starting shortstop last season as a sophomore, played for Martha’s Vineyard in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League this summer and was named the league’s playoff MVP after helping the Sharks capture the league championship on Thursday.

Tice played in 50 of Martha’s Vineyard’s 53 regular-season games and finished sixth in the league in batting (.338) while setting a regular-season league record with 70 hits. Tice was also tied for the league lead with 39 RBIs and finished second with 39 runs scored.

Martha’s Vineyard went 35-18 to claim the regular-season league title. The Sharks then went 4-0 in the playoffs to win the league championship. They capped their title run with a 6-3 win over the Nashua Silver Knights on Thursday.

Tice added seven RBIs during Martha’s Vineyard’s playoff run to finish with 46 on the season.

Tice was also named the regular-season MVP and participated in the league’s All-Star Game.

Tice is the second IUP player to be honored as the Futures Collegiate Baseball League MVP. Robbie Zinsmeister won the award in 2011.
