HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Bobcats crush Red Dragons

Blairsville amassed 13 hits and scored seven of the game’s last eight runs to rout host Purchase Line, 14-5, in a Heritage Conference baseball game Friday.

Scott Thompson led Blairsville by going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Max Hrebik doubled twice and drove in two runs, Alex Parkhurst singled, doubled and drove in a run, Anthony Faulk went 3-for-5 with a double, and Cameron Livingston singled twice and drove in a run.

Dylan Direnzo struck out three and walked none in 4 1-3 innings to earn the win.

Darren Bingaman went 4-for-4 and scored three times to pace Purchase Line. Mike Cramer went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and four RBIs, and Zack Bartlebaugh and Luke Barnett each singled twice.

Both teams play Monday. Blairsville (2-0) plays host to Saltsburg and Purchase Line (1-2) travels to United.

NORTHERN CAMBRIA 6, HOMER-CENTER 4: Northern Cambria scored three runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings and improved to 3-0 by toppling visiting Homer-Center in a Heritage Conference game.

The Wildcats outhit the Colts, 11-5, but stranded 10 runners on base and committed four errors.

“We hit the ball very well today. We just couldn’t plate the runners,” Homer-Center coach Scott Bauer said.

Joey Frontino doubled and drove in three runs for the Colts. Adam Weiland stroked a pair of singles. Josh Prasko struck out nine and walked three in a complete-game win.

Alex Arone went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Homer-Center. Darren Carr singled and tripled, and Kolby Skultety singled twice and drove in a run.

Both teams play on the road Monday. Homer-Center (1-1) travels to Portage and Northern Cambria heads to Marion Center.

MARION CENTER 6, SALTSBURG 5: Host Marion Center scored two runs in the sixth inning to score a come-from-behind win over Saltsburg in a Heritage Conference game.

Matt Shank hit a two-out single to left field in the bottom of the sixth to score pinch-runner Eric Stitt, tying the game, 5-5. Shank also scored on the play when Saltsburg’s catcher made an errant throw to third base, allowing Shank to score what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Hunter Stiteler singled twice and doubled for the Stingers. Matt Janosko singled and doubled, and Shank singled twice. Jeff Labryer struck out four and walked none in three innings of relief to notch his second win in two days. Tyler Doolin allowed one run in three innings of relief.

Lucas Mowery and Jimmy Beitel each singled twice for Saltsburg.

Both teams play Monday. Marion Center (2-0) plays host to Northern Cambria and Saltsburg (1-2) travels to Blairsville.

BLAIRSVILLE 12, LIGONIER VALLEY 10: In a game played Thursday, Blairsville erased an early eight-run deficit and scored two runs in the ninth inning to outlast host Ligonier Valley in a Heritage Conference game.

Thompson powered the Bobcats by going 3-for-4 with a grand slam homer and five RBIs. John Distefano singled twice and drove in two runs, Livingston doubled, scored four runs and drove in two runs, and Faulk doubled, scored three runs and drove in a run.

Thompson struck out three and walked none in two innings of relief to pick up the win. Freshman Ryan Shirley allowed no runs in 4 2-3 innings of relief.

Losing pitcher Jordan Jones struck out three and walked one in three innings of relief.
