HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Indiana squanders early lead, drops section game
In its second game in as many days, Indiana stranded 11 runners, committed three errors and squandered an early three-run lead in an 8-3 loss to Laurel Highlands in a WPIAL Section 2-AAA baseball game in Uniontown on Tuesday.
The Mustangs erased an early three-run deficit by scoring four runs on three hits, two errors and two walks in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-3 lead.
With a 6-3 lead in hand, Laurel Highlands then added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth on the strength of three consecutive base hits to make it an 8-3 game.
“There was just no clutch hitting for us, and they ran the bases really well,” Indiana coach Ryan Davies said. “They were really aggressive and we didn’t do much to stop their running game. Singles were turning into doubles pretty easy for them.”
Ryan Creps went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the Indians. Matt Griffith and Bo Putt each singled twice.
Indiana (2-5, 1-2 section) plays host to Uniontown today.
