HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Marion Center's Fetsko scores 43 in win

by The Indiana Gazette on January 28, 2014 10:35 AM

The weather outside might have been cold Monday night, but Todd Fetsko was on fire.

A four-year starter for Marion Center, Fetsko scored a career-high 43 points and made 8 of 9 free throws in the fourth quarter to help the host Stingers outgun DuBois, 79-75, in a non-conference boys’ basketball game.

Fetsko’s 43-point outburst was just four shy of the school record, set by Brent Lingenfelter, on Feb. 28, 1954.

For good measure, Fetsko also pulled down 12 rebounds.

“Todd really had a great night,” Marion Center assistant coach Nathan Johns said. “It seems hard to believe with 43 points, but he really let the game come to him. We fed him in the post and he used a plethora of moves to score. His jump shots were also falling … plus he made 11 of 13 shots from the free throw line. He had a very nice game.”

The Stingers carried a four-point lead, 50-46, into the fourth quarter, where they matched the Beavers by scoring 29 points.

Marion Center made 15 of 19 free throws in the fourth quarter. Hunter Stiteler made 6 of 8 free throws in the quarter, and Tim Betts made 1 of 2. Betts and Stiteler scored 11 points apiece. Betts added 10 rebounds.

The Stingers made 21 of 27 free throws and recorded season highs in points and field goals (29).

Marion Center (10-6) plays host to Ligonier Valley on Wednesday.
