by The Indiana Gazette on February 12, 2014 10:39 AM

Ligonier Valley’s Scott Fennell scored on a putback with five seconds left in overtime to lift the Rams to a thrilling 51-49 win over visiting Saltsburg in a Heritage Conference game.

With the game tied 49-49, Rams’ freshman Collin Smith airballed a short jump shot, only to watch Fennell snatch the errant shot out of the air and score with five seconds to play to put Ligonier Valley ahead, 51-49.

Ligonier Valley forward Jordan Jones then blocked a shot from Saltsburg’s Steve Richards with less than a second to play to seal the win.

Fennell, who finished with 12 points, scored all of Ligonier Valley’s four points in overtime.

“It was really a great back-and-forth game,” Saltsburg coach Don Stitt Jr. said. “Neither team led by more than five points the whole night.”
