HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Indiana teams sweep meet

ARMAGH — Indiana swept Kittanning and United, and the United girls picked up a victory over Kittanning in a non-conference cross country meet Wednesday.

The Indiana boys raced past United, 19-42, and Kittanning, 17-43, while Kittanning edged United, 26-31.

In the girls’ race, Indiana beat United, 23-36, and Kittanning, 15-44, and United picked up a 27-29 win over Kittanning.

Indiana (2-0) took the top three spots in the boys’ race, with Ryan Louther winning with a time of 18 minutes, 9 seconds, followed by Adam Lenze (18:26) and Sam Lenze (20:31).

Gaige George (21:27) and Noah Bracken (21:36) paced United (0-2) in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Indiana’s Kacey Raible held off United’s Ryleigh Ludwig to win the girls’ race, with Raible finishing nine seconds ahead of Ludwig in 23:49. Eden Bloom (24:08) was third for United (1-1), and Indiana’s Melanie Zolocsik came in fourth (24:36) as the Indians (2-0) claimed five of the top seven spots.

United welcomes Northern Cambria on Wednesday, and Indiana visits Ford City on Wednesday.

 

IJHS TEAMS WIN TWO OF THREE: The Indiana Junior High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each won two of three meets in a triangular event at the White Township Recreation Complex on Wednesday.

The boys’ team defeated Penn-Trafford, 23-34, and Greensburg Salem, 25-34, but lost to Hempfield, 20-37.

On the girls’ side, Indiana beat Hempfield, 19-40, and Greensburg Salem, 19-42, but lost to Penn-Trafford, 21-34.

Clara Sherwood finished in 12 minutes, 54 seconds and placed fourth in the girls’ race to pace Indiana. Other placewinners were Kara Gibbon (fifth), Jenny Brice (ninth), Sydney Wells (10th), Isabella McCabe (14th), Hannah Lenze (17th) and Shaelyn Waltemire (18th).

Mark Wagner placed seventh in the boys’ race with a time of 11:18 to lead Indiana. Indiana’s other scorers were Matt Berzonsky (eighth place), Isaac Evans (10th), Joey Bujdos (13th), Gunner Sharp (17th), Brandon Bosley (20th), and Rocco Fanella (21st).

Indiana travels to Kiski Area on Wednesday.
