HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Wildcats to face experienced foe in state playoffs

Nobody thinks about who’s next when your team wins a district title. And that makes perfect sense.

But, when Homer-Center gets back to work this week, it has a lot cut out for itself in Steelton-Highspire.

The Wildcats (12-1), fresh off their first District 6 Class A title in 19 years, head into the state playoffs with a quarterfinal game against the 11-1 Steamrollers at noon Saturday at Hersheypark Stadium.

Steelton, southeast of Harrisburg, is only about 13 miles from Hershey, where the Steamrollers beat York Catholic, 26-7, to win the District 3 championship last Saturday. A not-so-neutral site is the least of Homer-Center’s problems, though.

Steelton-Highspire has allowed just 76 points on the season, the third-lowest figure in the state.

The Steamrollers have allowed double digits just twice, and their only loss came in an imposed double-forfeit after a brawl during their Week 6 game at Susquenita.

On offense, Steelton-Highspire is led by senior dual-threat quarterback James Warren (37 of 89 passing, 735 yards; 92 carries, 675 yards) and junior running back Shaheim Moody-Williams (159 carries, 997 yards).

The Steamrollers are District 3 champs for the 10th time in program history and the first time since 2008.

They won state championships in 2007 and 2008 and are the last team other than Clairton to hold the title. Clairton lost to Steelton-Highspire in 2008, then won four PIAA championships in a row.

The Bears, who had their 66-game win streak snapped earlier this season, lost to Sto-Rox in the WPIAL playoffs this year.

Steelton-Highspire won the Mid-Penn Conference Capital Division, and beat four Class AAA teams and three Class AA teams in the regular season.
