HIGH SCHOOL GOLF ROUNDUP: Indiana boys off to fast start

GREENSBURG — The Indiana boys’ golf team improved to 2-0 by rolling past Greensburg Salem, 191-215, in a WPIAL Division 1 Section 1 golf match Thursday at Hannastown Golf Club.

Kevin Jack medaled and fired a 36 to lead Indiana. Matt Holuta and Wade Semsick each shot a 38, Danny Clark fired a 39, John Louis Gatti posted a 40, and C.J. Hughes had a 42.

Indiana plays host to Derry on Monday.

 

NORTHERN CAMBRIA 215, BLAIRSVILLE 234: Northern Cambria’s Hunter Duriez and Ray Shell each shot a 42 and the Colts beat Blairsville in a Heritage Conference match at Cambrian Hills in Hastings.

Mark Farrell and Ben Strollo each had a 43 for Northern Cambria. Austin Tibbott fired a 45, and Jim Rescinito carded a 46.

John Distefano medaled and shot a 41 to lead Blairsville.

Both teams play on the road Monday. Northern Cambria (2-0) travels to Ligonier Valley, and Blairsville (0-2) heads to Saltsburg.

 

LIGONIER VALLEY 224, UNITED 252: Ligonier Valley thumped United in a Heritage Conference match at Champion Lakes Golf Course in Bolivar.

Randy Bates medaled and posted a 42 to pace the Rams, Thomas McKnight shot a 43, and Phil Cornell and Al Vigliotti each carded a 45.

A.J. Bono and Ben Smith each fired a 46 for United.

United (1-1) plays host to Blairsville on Tuesday. Ligonier Valley welcomes Northern Cambria on Monday.

 

HOMER-CENTER 229, SALTSBURG 277: Logan Dellafiora fired a 39 and medaled, Austin Gaydosh shot a 40 and the Wildcats breezed past Saltsburg in a Heritage Conference match at Chestnut Ridge Golf Course.

After dropping their season-opening match, the Wildcats won their second straight Thursday. John Capitosti and Alex Arone shot 47s for the Wildcats.

Bobby Muir carded a 48 to lead the way for Saltsburg.

Homer-Center (2-1) heads to Northern Cambria on Tuesday, while Saltsburg welcomes Blairsville on Monday.

 

UNITED 232, SALTSBURG 272: In a match played Tuesday, United earned its first win by running away from Saltsburg, 232-272, at Cherry Wood Golf Course in Apollo.

Bono, Smith and Garrett Stinson each had a 44 for United.

Saltsburg plays host to Blairsville on Monday.

 

GIRLS

PENN-TRAFFORD 161, INDIANA 201: Penn-Trafford beat Indiana in a WPIAL Section 3-AAA match at Meadow Lane Golf Course. Logan Everett fired a 41 to pace Indiana, and Alexa Strong shot a 42.

In a match played Wednesday, Indiana lost to Fox Chapel, 205-209. Everett medaled with a 40, and Strong shot a 46.

Indiana (1-2) plays host to Norwin on Tuesday.
