HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY: Faris’ hat trick carries Indiana

Nate Faris scored a hat trick to lead the Indiana Chiefs’ Bantam A team scored a 6-4 win over the Steel City Renegades on Saturday in youth hockey action.

Nick Buchkovich, Ryan Neese and Brandon Boyer added goals for the Indians. Faris and Luke Schrecengost had assists.

Goalie Alec Stiffler made 19 saves.

• Vince Belice and Isaac Myers scored goals for Indiana, and the Chiefs’ Squirt Red team tied the Allegheny Badgers on Saturday.

Belice and Richard Lias had assists for Indiana. Goalie Corbin Murdick made 13 saves.

Laverick picked for showcase

Alaina Laverick, a student at Penns Manor High School, was recently chosen to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase North. The event will be held next month at Kent State University, in Ohio.

A catcher, Laverick plays for the 16-U Armstrong Force, out of Elderton, in the summer, as well as her high school varsity softball team. She plays fall ball for the Kittanning Girls Softball team in the Eastern Girls Fastpitch Softball League, Eastern Suburbs of Pittsburgh; and plays for the 18-U Clymer Slovak Club team in the Northern Cambria summer league.
