HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING: Altoona sweeps past Stingrays
ALTOONA — The Altoona boys’ and girls’ swim teams each topped Marion Center in high school swimming action on Wednesday.
The Altoona boys won 94-47, while its girls’ team claimed a 95-63 win.
For the Marion Center boys, Adam Gordish lowered his District 6 qualifying time in the 100 backstroke (1 minute, 1.17 seconds), and he also won the 200 individual medley (2:17.85). The boys’ 400 freestyle relay team, consisting of Richard Ankney, Zane Bennett, Mitchell Gordish and Adam Gordish, also took first place, in 4:20.71.
On the girls’ side, Kimberly Donaldson posted a new District 6 qualifying time in the 200 individual medley (2:37.23) and also won the 100 breaststroke (1:23.94). Also winning events for the Stingrays were Brittany Gaston, in the 200 freestyle (2:25.60); Morgan Tonkin, in the 100 backstroke (1:17.07); and the 200 medley relay team, consisting of Robin Schultz, Donaldson, Tonkin and Gaston (2:18.67).
Marion Center competes against Richland on Monday at Pitt Johnstown.
