Derry girls improve to 5-1

DERRY — Derry improved to 5-1 by blanking Ford City, 5-0, in a WPIAL Section 3-AA girls’ tennis match Wednesday.

Derry’s Maria Palombo and Natalie Sarnese each won in straight sets in singles play, and Katie Enos won by forfeit.

The No. 1 doubles team of Heather Ramsey and Anna DeCrease won in straight sets, and the No. 2 team of Keri Smith and Harlie Hudson followed suit.

Derry (4-0 section) travels to Riverview on Friday.

• NEW KENSINGTON — Unbeaten Valley nipped Indiana, 3-2, in a WPIAL Section 3-AA match.

Lucy Bujdos won in straight sets in singles play for the Indians.

The No. 2 doubles team of Eugina Chin and Jennifer Han also won in straight sets.

Indiana (2-1, 1-1) plays host to West Shamokin today.
